we welcome this fantastic producer on trapez with this piece of music which is quite different from most of what we get today. the title track >ghosts< feels like as if klaus nomi and kraftwerk were performing together... something we would have loved to have seen but which never happened. this track is not for the people who love it safe but for the adventurous and the wicked. voices like sirens striking with high pitched tongues being counteracted by basslines with a surface that can only be described as rough as chunks of splintered steel. a brilliant stop and go feeling shows that christian martin is the master on the steering wheel when it comes to controlling the movement.

the label boss returns to his own yore imprint with another stunning solo release. these are different times indeed for andy vaz if the eps three mighty jams are indicative of where his musics heading. the a-sides over here (a glance over prime time mix) roars from the very first moment vaz unleashes its steaming, latin-tinged groove. a far cry from the techno the yore label head once issued, the tune finds vaz exploring straight up dancefloor territory with a dizzying house pulse that straight up rocks. melodies and voices rise to the surface of the dionysian broil and then just as quickly recede, leaving room for a driving bass line to gain the spotlight. the flips hurry hurry (before its too late mix) is classic deep house just as one expects on yore. a jazz-inflected strut with tilman ehrhorns sax playing, wailing over waves of rollicking piano playing and spirited vocal chants. the energy level doesnt flag for the discs final track, bygone times (nostalgia mix), which stokes a fiery house swing with its locomotive pulse, futuristic synth patterning, and high-velocity bass lines. vazs music has never sounded more impassioned and energized than it does in these three tracks and consequently, just as one might predict, different times feels like its over far too soon

the man behind chymera is brendan gregoriy. releasing music since 2005, the producer from dublin already has an impressive discography with releases on labels such as delsin or ovum. >ellipsis< and >eulogy< are sonic epics that never cease zu fascinate the listeners. they manage to be bold and sophisticated, powerful and elegant at the same time. they transform the dancefloor in an maelstrom with no way out, and yet they never give their electronic cool away, they always remain subtle and somewhat distant. the sounds form an imaginary landscape, they are a projection surface for one s desires

you re the one is the first single taken from his forthcoming album as high as the sky which will be released on wagon repair in may. baby you re the one is fast out of the blocks with racing percussion and a plunging bass loop. a piercing metallic tone encircles a distorted vocal sample as subtle melodies rise to the surface of the mix, steadily intensifying to climax. on the flip side, crackbeat is a darker animal. kindling wild percussion carries an eerily distant key melody that supports a rich synth siren. teeming with activity, the synth melody is trailed by bubbling bass tones as a feral percussive drive chases to close.

sometimes, its still worth not to waste your youth with nonsense but to learn to play an instrument. like in the case of sebastian mullaert, who has learned to play violin, organ and piano, while his partner marcus henriksson rather came from kraftwerk and human league to electronic music. as son kite, the two swedes have already a well-known name in the psy-trance scene, and as minilogue, they now start to conquer the minimal and house world. with their rather unique sound, they manage the tightrope walk between minimal and trance and never allow us to put them into a drawer. especially with their debut on cocoon rec, minilogue present themselves in a different way, compared to their releases on traum or wagon repair. >jamaica< is a calm track at the first hearing and is perfect for building up a set. beginning with bird-like sounds, the track builds up slowly and quickly becomes very interesting and tricky, ramifies as organic as a climbing plant, and when the tribal sound emerges from the underground, this track has exactly what makes minilogue so special: organic matter and groovy sounds, worked into a minimal labyrinth with very much love for the details. all of that can also be found on the b side which seems to be more adequate for the morning hours, with its somehow spacey sound. with >jamaica<, mullaert and henriksson prove that they are floating on the very surface of the endless minimal ocean. and with their album >animals< being already in sight on cocoon recordings, one can be highly anxious of what is coming ahead, by minilogue and techno made in sweden
